On May 9th and 10th Signal Mountain Storm ‘96 competed in the Division 3 State Championships held at the East Ridge soccer complex, Chattanooga. During provisional play on Saturday, Storm ‘96 recorded a 4-0 win against White House Premier and a 3-3 tie versus Falcons 96 from Memphis. These results earned Storm ‘96 a place in a semi-final on Sunday morning, where they won 4-1 versus Camp Forest FC from Tullahoma. In the final, Storm 96 won 3-2 versus FCA Academy Intensity from Nashville. After finishing as runners up in 2007 at U11 and losing at the semi-final stage on penalty kicks in 2008 at U12, the Storm 96 players were excited to finally win the state tournament in 2009 at U13. Storm 96’s coach, Darren Bird, was delighted that the team was able to finish first out of 14 teams in the U13 girls division from all over Tennessee and was very proud of the exciting soccer that the team played during 4 very competitive games.
